About Domaine Olivier Merlin
Domaine Olivier Merlin, situated in La Roche-Vineuse in southern Burgundy, was founded by Olivier and Corinne Merlin in 1987. Olivier's passion for viticulture began in 1977 during a harvest in the Mâconnais region. After studying viticulture and oenology at the Lycée Viticole in Beaune, he and Corinne established their domaine, which now spans over 15 hectares in the Mâconnais and Moulin-à-Vent appellations. Their sons, Paul and Théo, have since joined the family business, continuing the tradition of crafting wines that reflect the unique terroirs of southern Burgundy.
The Merlins are dedicated to producing wines that embody balance, purity, depth, and harmony. They cultivate Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, and Gamay grapes, employing organic viticulture practices (though not certified) and traditional winemaking techniques. Their wines are aged extensively on lees, often spending 12 months on gross lees in barrels followed by an additional 6 months on fine lees. This approach enhances the wines' complexity and longevity while minimizing the need for sulfur dioxide. Domaine Olivier Merlin's commitment to quality and respect for the environment have solidified their reputation as one of the Mâconnais region's benchmark producers.
